This is a non-invasive technology that allows the assessment of sweat gland function through the analysis of sweat gland activity. It evaluates the ability of the sweat glands to release chloride ions in response to electrochemical activation. Conductance is measured on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. The level of sweat gland activity is related to the condition of the nerve fibers innervating the sweat glands. Small fiber neuropathies may be present in the early stages of diabetes and prediabetes.
